Food Journal, Peaches & Cream Cake

For my grandfather's 82nd birthday, I baked him a cake. The base, aka the cake batter was a Hot Milk Cake, and the fillings and toppings included homemade whipped cream and homemade peach jam.

For any cake I make, I usually use a Hot Milk Cake (example) that my family has made many a time. When I go to find a new cake recipe, I'm basically just looking for the frosting or filling or flavor added into the cake batter. I found the whipped cream and peach jam recipe on Also the Crumbs Please. As you can see in the photos, I only did a double layer cake, so I had a lot of jam left over that I used to put on toast (with whipped ricotta and herbed honey!) and ice cream.

This cake was served with homemade vanilla ice cream and homemade butter pecan ice cream. Both are to die for.

The Toasty Kitchen has a blueprint of How To Make No Churn Ice Cream with whatever flavors you most enjoy. It's very exciting. I've just tried the two I've listed above, but am looking forward to making Mint Chip, Caramel, and a fruity ice cream.

I recommend making this cake and the ice creams as a perfect summer treat!

Happy baking!

xx
